After Care Instructions
Aftercare is crucial for the proper healing and longevity of your tattoo. If you have chosen to use Aquaphor as your ointment, here are some aftercare instructions to follow:
- Leave the bandage on for at least 2-4 hours after getting your tattoo. This allows the tattoo to properly seal and prevents any bacteria from entering the fresh tattoo.
- Gently remove the bandage and wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean, soft towel.
- Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor ointment to your tattoo. Make sure to cover the entire tattooed area, but avoid applying too much ointment as it can suffocate the tattoo and delay the healing process.
- Repeat this process 2-3 times a day for the first 3-5 days. Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo or applying ointment.
- Avoid exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, or any activities that may cause excessive sweating or friction for at least 2 weeks.
- During the healing process, your tattoo may scab or peel. Do not pick or scratch at the scabs or peeling skin, as this can cause damage to the tattoo and increase the risk of infection.
- After the first few days, you can switch from Aquaphor to a fragrance-free, water-based lotion. Apply the lotion in a thin layer to keep the tattoo moisturized and prevent dryness.
- Continue to moisturize your tattoo regularly for at least 2-3 weeks or until the tattoo is fully healed. Avoid using petroleum-based products or heavy creams, as they can clog the pores and hinder the healing process.
- If you experience any signs of infection such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, or prolonged pain, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Remember, everyone’s healing process is different, so it’s important to listen to your body and follow the aftercare instructions provided by your tattoo artist. Proper aftercare will help ensure a beautiful and well-healed tattoo.
